It's amazing what used to be a Best Western has transformed into. What was once a budget motel is now the boutique hotel the Garland in North Hollywood. The former breakfast space for the motel a Best Western Breakfast express is now The Front Yard . Resort dining has come a long way in recent years. The Front Yard is a playful American restaurant pulling elements for its dishes from all over. Chef Chris Turano had big shoes to fill after Chef Warren Schwartz left the hotel with his previous project.
Gone are the dark moody rooms and wall sized blackboard. Now there's a huge outdoor patio with a firepit which has expanded the restaurant's seating significantly. Also Chef Chris has a new kitchen. That new kitchen is getting its money's worth with what The Front Yard is producing. The Chef is producing a lot of shareable plates. There's pastas, salads, flatbreads and some more unusual dishes like a sharable pork steak.
What should you try at The Front Yard? I don't think Chef Chris has anything really weak on his menu. The man most likely could tell you the sourcing and why he picked almost everything that went into his dishes. But the pasta here is just great. One of the best in LA. His linguine with fresh dungeness crab is the must try dish here. The flour used to make the pasta is very hard to find and its made in house. I will say the parking can be a little hard but I think they validate for their lot (or park across the street.)
