A Bite of Venezuela: Chocolates of Amara Chocolates

Amara Chocolates is a chocolate shop in Old Town Pasadena that has a twist from the traditional chocolate shop, at Amara you are getting the owners love of their homeland Venezuela. Amara is actually named after the owner Amara who has a passion for chocolate that is rare to be found almost anywhere.  At the shop they not only sell chocolate but also sandwiches, salads, and churros.
The churros are different from the Mexican churros us Angelenos are used to. These are chewy and thin with a shin of caramelized sugar and cinnamon. Served with their house hot chocolate it makes a great combo for a chocolate love on a rainy day. I however am happy with the churros by themselves. They are cooked to order.
The truffles here are unique. Amara makes them in house using only chocolate she feels meets the quality she herself would eat. See's is crap to her. Don't even get her started on commercial chocolate dipped items like apples. The truffles have ingredents like lychee, guava, and sea salt to name a few (http://amarachocolate.com/chocolate/). One of my favorites would have to be the Acropolis which is a goat
cheese based truffle. Honestly the people here have a passion and love for what they do and it shows in their products.
